Suppose you had a good friend or relative living in another state that was moving to NY. They have an off the shelf name brand AR with all the stuff that is illegal in NY, yet considered pretty standard by the industry. They are not real knowledgable about the workings of the gun outside of breaking down for clean up and re-assembly.
What mechanism would you recommend to fix a ten round magazine in place so they can cross the border without worry that they are breaking some stupid law.

Thank you fellows. I am a stove bolt kind of guy, but there is a slim possibility that I will have to do the actual installation and am not familiar with either of the products shown. Would they work with a left handed configured set up? Would also like to do a proper job.

They are simple install. Replace standard mag release with this one. Insert mag. Tighten down set screw with hex wrench. Done.

@Robin I've seen pictures of the guns you have built. Knowing your skill set you would be able to install a mag lock one handed with your eyes closed.

Robin. This is one of the easiest to install. No tools required other than your finger to push in the standard mag release.

Yep, this is a nice product (I've been to the store).

Lots of variations like it from other manufacturers, too. Or you could do basically the same thing with a bolt from lowes and some loctite.

Geez..

Tell 'em to go to the hardware store and buy a nut and washer that fits the threads on the mag catch.
Put a mag in the mag well, remove the button and spring from the catch, and put the washer and nut on in its place. Tighten down (gently) with a wrench.

Costs about $0.25

If they are really worried about non-existent "permanent" requirements being bandied about by people they can use red loctite on it.

$0.25 = all it takes to be legal or illegal in New York. Thanks to our retard-in-chief.
