If weed was legally sold in NY from NY approved cannabis stores.
There would be a tax stamp on the weeds packaging. Just like on a pack of cigarettes.

If weed was to be legalized in NY. It would be worse for the people who would still acquire it the old fashioned way if they were to get caught in possession of it. Because now they can be charged with a class A misdemeanor for tax evasion. Just like with the untaxed cigarettes from the Indian Reservations.

As it is now, possession of 2 ounces (IIRC could be wrong) is only a violation. The weed smokers that I know do not want it legalized. The penalties for possession of untaxed weed
will be worse. Either that or they have to pay the Kings ransom, I mean tax.

A person is legally allowed up to 399 untaxed cigarettes in their possession.
There are 400 cigarettes in 2 cartons... Why not just make it 400 cigarettes? A full 2 cartons.
Have ya noticed how they write these laws...

When you buy cigarettes they are packaged in a case . I know right now in NY medical Marijuana is only packages in vaporizer canisters so it's easy to identify where it comes from. Keeping track of loose plant material is harder to enforce, if you have a bag of loose tobacco are you violating a law. How bout a cigarette behind your ear? Seems hard to enforce unless you get caught selling it.
