I backed up my position at first. He rejected it wanting to ignore the fact that labor participation is not an important factor (it is).

It's disturbing that college's are churning out such low grade dumbasses.

Just like yesterday when I got into a debate about vaping. This co-worker just happens to be a butt hurt hillary supporting snowflake. She saw I was carrying my vaporizer and points at it and says "those are bad". The best thing to do is always just simply ask why. She pretty much said because a doctor on tv said so and the "FDA just issued something about it". When I started spewing out facts about what the juices are actually made of and how the ingredients are used in hundreds of items and how shes very likely already consumed them today she pretty much said "but it's not the same thing". Then I started giving out more and more facts with some very early studies of one of the ingredients and she was shutting down. She got very flustered trying to come up with more bull but couldn't and said "egh I can't argue with you it's your body". It was quite funny to watch. Looked like she was about to have a seizure trying to string together some more non factual crap. Had we not been in the work place I'm sure she would have resorted to some kind of name calling. It's always the same things with these people.

If you go by the data alone, the liberal would be right, except those numbers and measurements have been scewed. For example unemployment is under 5%. Sounds great until a lot of people were no longer counted as unemployed. Many more were allowed to get SSI and are not counted. Many are working jobs that paid half of what they used to get.

well yes, the unemployment rate is below 5%, it's actually 4.6%. Thats the Government's official U-3 number. The actual unemployment rate, the U-6 number , is 9.9%
The government and the Dept of Labor has been playing this bullshit game for 60+ years.
But lets put that into perspective. there are about 243 million adults 'available' for work between 16 and 65...of that number 156 million ARE working. That leaves about 90 million NOT working. BUT, of those we have to consider that the 16-24 age group, some percentage is in school and many over 65 are still working, Obviously because they can't afford to stop working. also many people that are self employed, and not registered as a company (DBA or LLC or Inc or S-type) are counted as not looking for work or dropped off the rolls and would come under the U-6 number. so how many are unemployed, the answer is somewhere between 25 million and 90 million
