I was passing through Bangor last year and stopped by a Army/Navy type store with an indoor range. It's cool to see stuff that's illegal in New York available. The indoor range had a selection of full auto guns for rent. I missed out on trying any of the rentals due to the fact is was too close to closing time. Although that did save me bunch on money. Full autos are known to go through ammo pretty fast

I mean, why not? It would be a fun trip any way you slice it, but it also seems like a long way to go for some NY legal fudd guns. If LL bean had AR's and other guns that didn't match a pair of their duck bill boots, it would be even better.
I can remember them having guns listed in their catalogues way back in the day.

The main store in Freeport sells guns.
My upcoming road trip, hopefully it will have similar scenes for me.

LL Bean the shoe seller .. ?? had some LL bean boots .. didn't last a year .. .. hope the guns last longer ..
I have been there several times. Prices run a bit high but they usually have nicer stuff both new and used. I did buy my Marlin MXLR in .338ME there for a reasonable price probably 10 yrs. ago.
As said stop by Kittery trading post just as you pass the bridge into Maine. The selection there will make you drool. There is a little seafood shack just pass there on Rt1 that makes nice Lobster rolls or go to the Weathervane for lunch and have anything you want.
And if you do go there you will have to pass the Cabelas in Scarborough on the way so might as well stop there too. They do have some nice used gun deals there sometimes.
