I got that Centerpoint sniper 370 one that was popular a few years ago. 370 FPS it was just over $200 on ebay and I put a $100 nikon scope on it. The thing is a monster. Very accurate and a pass through on every deer I've hit with recovery (cannot say that about my vertical bow!). Loud as hell but I think they all are. They are well into the 400's now if you get an expensive one. The raven xbows are great but illegal for deer hunting in NY due to thin width of them. I assume most people who own one hunt with them anyway.

last I knew the PSE was discontinued, friend has one. problem with them is extra long bolts next to impossible to find

with the video above and his upgraded mag .. you may be able to put small mechanical broad heads on them or that could be the 3.0 mag ..

but i think a nice sharp point on a field tip and a head shot will do the job . ;)

Three years ago I bought a crossbow, it was a Barnett, don't even know off the top of my head what model it is. I knew nothing about crossbows, and to date have not learned much. It came with a scope mounted and four bolts with expandable broad heads, field tips, and a rope thing to cock it with. I took it out side and bulls eyed a twenty yard target, then bulls eyed a fifty yard target repeatedly, all without practice, all just the way it came. I have shot at two deer with it and killed two deer with it. It is reasonably quiet in use.
For a SHTF stealth weapon, I would buy another in a heartbeat. It seems to be well made with quality materials and I don't expect I will have to Eff with it in my life time.

OK ... so the real question is, how much do you want to spend? Raven is owned by CenterPoint which makes some really good crossbows and at a decent price. The new Bear X line is decent as well. You can spend $2000+ if you so choose, but realistically, they all do the same thing. I will say (Barnett owners stop reading here) STAY AWAY FROM BARNETT!! We dropped them 4 years ago because of a major flaw in their design which results in the crossbows dry firing and not the operators fault!! I called them when I discovered what the issue was and they STILL haven't fixed it. We will no longer do ANY warranty work for them either. So, with that said, you'd be surprised who owns what and Bowtech owns the majority. I personally liked the one Walmart had for sale last year.



CenterPoint and Bear really stand behind their product and it works well. Sure .. there will be an issue here and there but that will happen to ANY crossbow out there. I have sold hundreds of CenterPoint and hundreds of Bear X. They don't come back for issues UNLESS it was indeed operator error in which case we'd still get it covered under warranty. Now ... if you're really set on compact and extremely narrow, here's the CenterPoint with the Raven limbs on it. Again ... not a bad price at all.



My personal choice would be the Patriot 415 because I'm not going to use it much and the price point is right for me personally. I will be buying one soon because in really cold weather, it's a biotch to pull back the bow and I'm getting tired of buying the same bow in 2-3 different weight ranges. It's getting WAY too expensive for that. LOL I have assembled many of the Patriot 415's and shot them all to sight them in for people. I'm impressed with them.

There are many good companies and crossbows out there from Ten Point, Wicked Ridge, Raven, Excalibur (Which has a double barrel crossbow out now) Bear, CenterPoint and others. Killer Instinct has been hit or miss BUT if you get a good one, it's a keeper.

Are you talking about crossbows in general or the TAC15? The TAC15 hasn't been in production for many years now. I want one SO bad but the prices are still stupid on them. :)

Chicken Shoot, I have had real success with the Barnett I bought, but like I said, I' am largely ignorant of these things and other than safety issues I have no real desire to learn about them.
On mine the safe switch comes on when you cock it, and I always make sure it does go on safe before loading the bolt, if the bolt is "not" firmly seated, the safe switch will not operate, it will not fire. And I mean firmly, it may look seated, but you have to shove it back till you know you can shove it no further. I am interested to know what the safety issue is and how it might be fixed.

All crossbows have an automatic safety on when cocked provided you cock it when in the fire position. The safety issue has nothing at all to do with the anti-dryfire you are referring to. The issue is, the string sits well below the nock of the bolt in the cocked position. Barnett was HOPING the string would ride up the fingers and end up behind the nock where it should be. Well .. that frequently is not the case. Upon firing, the string is released, hitting the very bottom of the nock and not transferring the stored energy into the bolt. Instead, it goes underneath the bolt, tearing up the vane in the barrel and results in a dryfire, breaking the string, bending the cams, splintering the limbs and the bolt goes about 50' since it wasn't fully contacted by the string. We easily see 40+ per year since Dick's sells them and people still buy them. Since Barnett is SO slow at shipping parts, and they won't reimburse us time for labor, we are no longer servicing nor selling their products.

So if my machine has been acting properly I should be good to go, or is this a problem that develops over time?
I have seen what happens when a drunken fool dry fires a compound bow and it isn't pretty.

I have a reverse draw crossbow and I love it compared to a standard XB. Its narrow, shoots 350fps and is accurate enough to wreck arrows by shooting the previous one stuck in a target at 25 yards

The only think I dislike about crossbows with a heavy draw weight is its about as fun to target shoot as a muzzle loader. Its a fuckfest dealing with the cocking rope/device. Good for a one and done shot but thats about it imo.

He will answer any questions you have and give you good advice. I've known him for many years and have bought guns and archery items from him. A very good guy to deal with.

They're pretty expensive for what you get, but there is certainly an advantage when familiar with that platform and in only needing to transport the upper around in addition to one's primary weapon (if that's an AR). There's also a TAC Elite which isn't just an upper but a full x-bow that's very similar to an AR. Same safety type/placement, takes the same grips (I think) and has a built-in cocking crank (which the TAC-15 Upper also has) . I don't much about it beyond that. I've looked at it before because that all sounds good to me, but again..it's pricey. On the other hand, significantly less so that very high end x-bows.

Doing just a little research, I'm not certain you can get it anymore. Looks like they discontinued it quite some while ago and changed the name to the TAC Ordnance , but that may have been discontinued also. Not certain.

For those of you who haven't heard - PSE has discontinued the TAC crossbow line. I never heard exactly why but I imagine they wanted to head more mainstream with their crossbows. We have searched for what we think is the best crossbow on the market and are now a Scorpyd Crossbow dealer...

They all act fine until it happens. It's not really a model specific thing or a year built thing. The Barnett's can shoot hundreds of times and then ...... POW!! and you are left looking at what use to be your crossbow with now bent cams, broken string and possibly damaged limbs. :( I cannot recommend any Barnett product unfortunately. If yours has been good and is near that 2 year old mark, at the least, get the string and cables changed. That's the basic rule of thumb. New string and cables at 2 years no matter how many shots.
