Well you know what they say about opinions......just kidding. I'm no expert , but everything above sounds pretty solid to me. I've been on 10mm for 8-9 years now, and it's finally hitting mainstream. Are you looking for a carry gun? Or range, H.D., sporting? If not for CC , (which i think there are much better choices than 1911 esp considering all the single stack variations out there), I would go full size, or my favorite.. the long slide.
I also have Beretta 92a1 in 9mm and .40, great firearms, and glock, walthers, s&w, ruger also no complaints. And the sig legions that I have shot are fantastic hammer guns. I don't own one yet, mainly because I'm a southpaw.
1911's are another breed entirely and once bitten, you're most likely poisoned . In the 1k range I have a Springer full size 9mm (like shooting a .22 , Sig .45, and Kimber tle/rl 10mm . All are available in 10mm and I can't tell you that one stands above the other, not that one doesn't , but I can't say.
But the 10mm in 1911 ( i have glock 10mms too) is a hoot, esp shooting steel. You feel like your hurting that AR plate! It's gratifying, and very easy to shoot several mags of hot 10mm without the "ok, that's enough" of my .44 ruger sbb . I also have STI's in 2011 9mm 6" and a Perfect 10 6", but those are different guns in a different league. I also highly suggest you look into Fusion firearms. They used to be made in NY but left for Florida and good for them. They have a semi custom Fusion series that fits the 1k budget and in 10mm. I have the .45 longslide and love it along with all my other "children". Great shooter, great trigger. Check em out . Oh and Dan Wesson, don't have one yet, great piece from what I've heard, but pushing $2k.
Any how, enough babbling, and by the way I have been tempted by RIA's, they have a great rep and dollar for dollar they work. One last thing. REAL 10mm ammo (1250fps+ 180g) used to be only had from either high end factory defensive loads $$$$ (not for range time) or smaller companies. Underwood used to be bang for the buck , I have several hundred rounds mail ordered before Stalin jr. took over NY. Parabellum Research used to make some good stuff too , but not anymore? Sig and Fiocchi seem to have stepped up with some pretty good fmj loads for the dollar. Otherwise you are shooting a slightly faster .40 rem.
All modern firearms will handle the good stuff.
Cheers and good luck
