I am doing a project for my design technology class where we have to identify and solve a problem by creating a product that could be effectively put onto the market. My idea is to make a combination of a shooting rest and a gun vise. I have created a short survey to get an idea of what people are looking for, yes and no answers are good if you wish to add more that is appreciated.

I use a shooting rest when bench rest shooting. I have a Cladwell lead sled for testing purposes, you can also look up ransom rests they pretty much have anything one would need on the market already.

How often do you clean your guns?
Often enough to say so

Have you ever broken/dented/dinged/damaged your gun while cleaning it or doing maintenance?

Nope they normally get that way being used.

What tools/other products do you use while cleaning and doing maintenance on your rifles?

I use vises, jigs, jags, cleaning rods, patches and chemicals.

How much should this product weigh?

Depends on what you plan on doing with it. Caldwell rests have a tray for either free weights or sandbags. This helps reduce movement of the rest.

What features of a gun vise do you/would you use the most?
You have to be careful using the word "Vice" remember c is bad. Ok there are some drawbacks to gun vises on the range.
1) you only get how the gun shoots when locked in to something. This may be fine for getting a scope close or removing all human error from how well a particular load may do but, it is not an accurate representation of how you shoot.
2) I have seen gun stocks break under recoil when locked into a vise. They have no place to go so heavier calibers have been known to snap a wooden stock at the pistol grip when locked into a vise.

How much would you spend on a product like this?
I have spent upwards of 250 on a rest. I have seen rests on my range that cost 1800 dollars and the shooters that own them like them a lot. I am good with my 250 dollar rest.

I think you should find something else to come up with the market is saturated and there is not a lot of innovation left out there for a newbie.

i have seen bench rest shooters that make there own , old disk brake rotor from a car or truck , drill some holes and add some threads and put in some bolts to get level and up to hold the gun ...

i myself don't want the gun to be fixed .. let it recoil like it should .. when on the bags or what ever and is stable , on mark .. and i touch that trigger .. booom !!! .. damn just bruised my shoulder .. but hit the 10x .. only thing that touched it was my finger .. now out hunting or off the rest .. if i miss .. thats me .. i pulled it or jerked the trigger ... ..

NOW!!! .. whats the market .. i see the advertising commercials .. so your design would be in advertising and you product would be showing the damn truth .. people kill ,. not the gun

I have a better suggestion...

A cryptic decoder that a politician wears around their neck which interprets speech and bio markers to identify when the person wearing it is lying! Yes, a wearable "Lie Detector". It would also have visual indicators so those watching would know when an untruth (as the speaker understands it) is spoken! It could also be fitted with electrodes to act as correction devices that will administer a small jolt every time it detects bullshit. Politicians who get re-elected would be less prone to untruths as the correction device would perform Pavlov programming to the point the politician wouldn't even know they were telling the truth. We could lobby for the device to be mandatory for all elected officials, like body cameras for LE! Thereby creating an instant market. We could also lobby for Felony Crimes if found the device was altered it disabled in any way.

It's sure to be a hit with everyone but those who lie, no? Because if they aren't, then they'd have nothing to worry about! They couldn't refuse the challenge to wear the devices!!!
