Just loaded my first 60 rounds!
felt like it took forever getting everything set up. My first load was a 168 sierra matchking over 40 gr of 4320, aside a second load with the same bullet over 39 gr of 4895, both used cci 200 primers. I can't wait until monday to try them out.
First 3 rounds were kinda screwed up cause i was dialing in my seating die, but after that everything worked like a charm. Time to go invest in a bullet puller.

Congratulations! Take it slow and double check everything.

When you try them out, try shooting a group with yours, then try a group with factory rounds. I bet yours make a tighter group.

That's what i intend to do actually. gonna get another box of the same ammo most of this brass came from. and yes everything was thoroughly double checked.
how much force does it take to seat a primer though? it seemed like a bit even thought i nicely cleaned out the pocket.

When you seat the primer, you'll feel it go in. Once you feel the resistance go up, its seated enough. If you're not crushing the primers, you're doing it right.

Being that its sensitive to shock its probably the part im most worried about.

Depending on the case, the primer pocket and the primer, it can be anywhere from flush to slightly recessed. Usually its slightly recessed though.

You can overseat a primer with a lot of force without it going bang. Ask how I know! You can also crush them from either hanging up on a crimp or missfeeding and they won't go off.

Wear safety glasses just in case, but its hard to accidentally set off a primer when you're reloading.

If you are shooting your loads in a gun that has a floating firing pin, you will want to set them 2-4 thousands below flush.

I have actually set one off. It wasn't by crushing it though. The primer pocket had a piece of media in it that I missed, the action of seating the primer against it detonated the primer. It was loud and a little unnerving but, other than that nothing. That is why you go in steps, primer first, then powder then bullet, lol.

Once you get used to it you will develop a "feel" for the primers. After a few hundred rounds you will know what I mean.

Use a kenetic hammer to pull bullets. It'll save your powder, case and bullet. If you inadvertently scratch a bullet, use that round for your fouling shot at the range.

It's still good to keep a kinetic around for the occasional 1 or two rounds when you're too lazy to set up the collet puller but anything more and you're wasting your time. The powder stays nice in the casing as well so you can take the casings and dump them neatly into the gunpowder container. If the charge is correct you can put the charge into another primed and properly sized casing.

For plinking bullets I use a collet puller, for match I will use a kinetic puller with a piece of cork or foam in the bottom, to protect the bullet point. Another use for a kinetic puller is letting the bullet out a bit if you inadvertently seated it too deep, done that on occasion when I was trying to find the right seating depth for a particular gun with a specific bullet.

Yes, the only word of advice I will give you there is: only work with one powder at a time (only one on the bench). That way you will not have an accidental cross contamination to deal with.

As long as you don't mix anything, you'll be ok. If you feel like investing a little more, you could set up a measure for each powder. The Lee powder measure is cheap and works well. That's not necessary though.

In any case, if you even suspect that you mixed different powders, dump it and start fresh. Don't take a chance with a kaboom.
