Trust me...I got that email and I already have a shopping cart set up. I’m just having a hard time swinging on 400 bucks by the time it’s shipped and transferred.
I appreciate the responses and the collective wisdom, folks. I know there are objectively better rifles for the money out there, but you can’t account for “cool,” which is how I feel about this rifle and the bullet it throws.
Anyone looking to get out of one on/near LI?

If you do get a Mosin , unless its been tinkered with , they are battle sighted in at the 300 Russian mark on the rear sight with the bayonet mounted.
( can't remember what they call the measurement unit they use )
there was a store on ebay i think that sold a replacement front sight and was adjustable for elevation

I would also suggest to stay away from rimmed cartriges and today I saw a $365 deal of 1K rounds in steel in 762x39 if that
is steel what you want. will probably sell out right away.
These days one would be smart to get a flexible system/rifle.
You can get an axis for $250 and in some places 1K of ammo for $300-400 that is very rare vs 500,600 and up to 1K dollars or more.
So ideally getting a rifle like that that can easily swap calibers with an inexpensive barrel and bolt head (if needed) you
shoot more and a "Free" gun with the difference of available well priced ammo and avoid all the other non-sense high price.
the axis action along with the modern ammo and versatility of the system is far superior, more accurate and more fun.
I would start with whatever is on sale that is compatible for easy conversion and give great.
The axis is an inexpensive gun but from a receiver perspective is very simple and very strong and can take parts from the S10/11

I understand why people like them for collection or if you want to do a re-enhacemnt of the enemy at the gates.
But these days with the steel ammo going for $500 to 600 at the lowest price for mediocre results then any
modern reliable and versatile action will be far superior in every way.
For collection I understand but to just feed steel (lets say choose the cheapest possible), not sure.
Also I saw the HMR and the 17H2 are on stock when nothing else is in stock and you have rugers that come with the
22LR and hmr barrels so in terms of shooting cheap one can get one of those bolt action carbines and ammo for
much less that the 1K ammo alone in other calibers.
Guns and ammo demand is a bitch right now so one should use it and look into the less obvious options.
It is also a great time to reload that old powder people have in the basements.

Make no mistake, I've owned every combloc guns from a mosin to a Vepr. (Not an svd however) They are crude. They are basic hammers that get the job done. My american sensibilities lean more towards a scalpel. Doesnt mean combloc guns are bad.
Again, the mosin itself is no where near the most accurate, modern, or reliable guns to enter the first world war, never mind the second.
The most accurate one I owned was a chinese type 53. I figure simply because it was used the least.
Enemy at the Gates, albeit fun, is historical trash.
