Local news story from Fayetteville. 25-year-old Brittany Murphy made the mistake of stopping at the Cumberland Food Mart convenience store on February 6, just around the corner from the "historically black" Fayetteville State University. She was immediately confronted outside by a three young black thugs who demanded her keys, and one shot her seven times when she did not immediately hand them over and tried to get them pack. She stumbled bleeding back into the store and fell to the ground where she was ignored by the black staff and patrons inside.
Brittany was hospitalized and unable to work as she recovered. Her 4 month old unborn baby died. A bullet remains in her body.
The entire shooting was caught on video, and the perpetrators remain at large and have not been named. They were unable to start the car, a 2010 Dodge Avenger with a faulty ignition, and fled empty-handed.
Brittany's GoFundMe has raised less than $700 in the nearly 3 months since this shooting.
Not only has regional and national news ignored this story, this brutal interracial crime hasn't caught the attention of the intrepid student reporters at Fayetteville State University, despite happening less than half a mile down Cumberland Street from campus and being the closest "media" outlet to the incident. You might think they care about safety in their backyard, but the first news item filed after the incident at FSU's The Voice was "Beyoncé Breaks Record at Grammys," and later an opinion piece, "The LSU Hand Gesture Controversy Reveals Double Standards in Sports," complaining that blacks are held to higher behavioral standards.
