IBM Chief Executive Officer Ginni Rometty said she plans to hire about 25,000 people in the U.S. and invest $1 billion over the next four years, laying out her vision for filling technology jobs in America on the eve of a meeting of industry leaders with President-elect Donald Trump.

Rometty, who is on Trump’s advisory panel of business leaders, will join Facebook Inc.’s Sheryl Sandberg, Amazon.com Inc.’s Jeff Bezos and Alphabet Inc.’s Larry Page and Eric Schmidt at a summit with Trump Wednesday in New York that is said to focus on jobs.

I am looking to the future, not the past. In speaking of unions, it was an overall statement to the decrease in good jobs. I do not need to find an employee to get the real answer because I do not care. Again, I am looking towards the future.

I have a real problem with unionized public sector workers. Sorry GoPerfect and the other first responders, and I would probably exempt your unionization from this statement. But as for the office workers, and the DMV people and all the other unionized government types there should be no union. The reason that I say that is because we, the people who pay the salaries, get no seat at the contract/pay negotiations. The government (employer) is not bargaining against their profits, and the union is trying to get a piece of what it sees as an infinite pie. Then, whatever pay increase is agreed to, our taxes go up and voila! And the government also has no problem handing out bonuses and lavish pensions because after all, it isn't their money.

I'm not a huge Union fan, but if I was in the union at my job is have an extra $7,000 in my pocket and trust me my company can afford it. They give back profits to France of $150,000,000 per year from the 4 plants in the USA. There are another 250 plants world wide. What's that tell you??
However taxing, penalizing, and raising minimum wage will not help get me a raise it will just hurt me more in the long run. So I agree with you. Look at those companies in Indiana. The workers would have to take a $20-25 per hour pay cut for them to make it worth while to stay.

This particular friend of mine was hired with the promise of a company pension, a 401K if he decided to join, and medical benefits at retirement.

After 10 years they took away his pension because he was too young and didn't meet their new formula for pension benefits. So after 10 years no pension. Fine, he sucks it up and contributes to a 401K.

Meanwhile Lou Gerstner left with a couple hundred million $$$"s, and stock valued at from what I hear at least a billion, use of the corporate jet whenever he needed it, and whatever benefits he could get. He was there what, maybe 5-10 years?

Foward 15+ years and they call him in and tell him he's no longer an "employee" but we have this job for you as a "contractor", at 50. His contractor status is from contract to contract, tenuos at best. Two kids in college, hey, who cares, life is tough, boo hoo.

Change their ways? Meeting with DT means they're changing their ways? Or hiring some folks whose jobs are temp at best?

Well, I worked for a company for 18 years, when I first started there, it seemed all peaches and cream. As the years went on, it became horrible in many ways to stay. Finally, I woke up. I found my current job, left the previous one and never looked back.

Trust me when I say that I know many workers get screwed by their employers. I hate the CEO package deals. The millions wasted on a very small, select group. I learned long ago, it is up to me to take care of me and my family. Not the company that I work for. I have a pension through work. I also plan my future as if I had no pension. It could disappear like a fart in the wind.

My point to looking to the future is simple, the past 15 years have been very rough for the American worker. The past cannot be changed, ever. The future holds the key to the success of our Nation. You want to live and worry about the past? Go ahead, I am looking beyond.

Who's fault is that? You could have taken a career path that was unionized.

Some of you haters out there that complain that they don't have a pension could have easily taken a job that offers one just like I and many here have.

My career was chosen specifically for this reason. If a pension wasn't my priority, I would have done something else that I actually like that doesn't require working nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating weekly shifts.

Countless times when openings and tests come up where I work to fill vacancies, I tell people I know about them. The replies I get are that they don't want to work nights, that they don't want to be drug tested, and that they don't want to work Saturdays. I'm 25 years old. I have to live my life. You only live once...... I don't want to travel an hour to work.

I also get the reply that they want to do what they enjoy. Well ladies and gentlemen, that's the choice you made isn't it? You could have made 80 to 120 grand with a pension but instead you would rather sell car parts at 14 bucks an hour and delivery them locally, work at a hair salon, or work at a non unionized hospital that is closer to home because that is your passion and the clientele are better and you don't want to commute 40 miles to a unionized hospital that offers pensions.
