.338 Win Mag
I finally have my new Icom installed and getting familiar with the menu system for programming, much easier and user friendly than I expected.
The business view...
I found this mount in my shed, kinda like a Ram mount but older and stronger. There's an adapter that comes with the radio but it's just a flat plate for the back and has 2 magnets you attach to the radio head. Been down some really rough roads and those magnets don't move at all.
Had to drill a hole in the firewall but I had a grommet that would fit and I sealed it up with 3M 5200, it'll never leak.
I have the main radio body mounted to the back of the cab with heavy rivets through the bracket, also sealed with the 3M. I also have a piece of heavy tarp material between the bracket and cab that I keep over it to keep any water or dirt off that may get flinging around the cab.
I still have to do do some wire management to clean that up and protect the wiring but it's getting there.
I've been messing with the menu system in it for a couple days learning the ins and outs and it's a really slick system, very user friendly. Definitely not like the Chinese radios, and still easier than Kenwood or Yaesu.
The only thing that kinda sucks is the D-Star system, and only because there's only one D-Star repeater within 40 some miles of me. If I would have went with Yaesu I would have quite a bit of APRS infrastructure near me.
Still over all, I'm glad I went with the Icom. I'm sure more D-Star repeaters will crop up.
And while I'm at it, these tires are awesome! Treadwright Claw II 10ply.
