I always file an Extension to file Taxes. Why ? I always receive a refund, after all. But I just hate it.
Anyhow, a few years ago I discovered the Social Security Administration had made it impossible to enter their web site without a smart phone for verification. Considerating Smart Phones were an expense I could ill afford, let alone the cost of the plan, I was infuritated.
But I bought one, and now pay nearly $100 a month for a device that I can barely pay for, but is vital.
So fast forward ..... Last week I discovered that to enter the IRS Web Site, I must be validated by ID.me. Validation is an intrusive process that requires a Government ID, a Social Security Card, a Drivers License (or Government ID), and even a Birth Certifcate.
If they desire, all these Documents must be, on their whim, presented online during a video session with an agent. Also a video selfie, of course.
Personally, I passed easily. But I have a son who is Austitic, barely verbal. They put us through hell.

Lowes Hardware has sadly hired these NAZIS to verify Military Service. I have been verified for the Military Discount at Lowes for several years, but now am forced to re-certify by ID.me.
I served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard in the 1970s. Staff Sergeant. Any records were never digitized, as computers barely existed then. Apparently microfiche was the storage medium of choice.
All I have is an NGB Form 55, which took me, honestly, nearly 2 years to acquire several years ago.
Not good enough says ID.me. Too blurry.
