Over the last few months, I have been focusing on my Rimfire rifles and my 308 because they perform the bulk of hunting uses.
However, I realized I had been neglecting my 223. The rifle is a Savage Axis II XP 223 with Boyd’s lightweight thumbhole stock and Nikon Prostaff 5 scope. I originally intended the rifle to deploy against the local coyote population. Nevertheless, the weather this March and last has been prohibitative.
I took the rifle the range for a little quality time. It occurred to be how much fun the 223 caliber is to shoot. The ammo is inexpensive and the recoil is not at all punishing. The accuracy at 100 yards is also quite satisfying.
Here’s a photo of the rifle in the field from late last spring, when the weather was nicer.
