IDPA classification ?

Ok so while looking to start doing some handgun competition I was informed (should have noticed when reading some of the rules and classifications but never made the connection) that both my chopped g19 (g26 mags) and chopped g17 (take 19 mags) could possibly put me from production class to open class or what ever due to the permanent external modifications

So I'm wondering if I could just use a 80% build as a production gun

Gen 4 and gen 3 will work on all previous lowers.

No. You cant run a homemade gun. Some rule about a min manufactured number..... in production. If you don’t shoot production with a 9 mm you’re being handicapped because of the minimum power factor.

I understand what @kev74 is saying.. but in reality it is fun to see how you place within your class. You can always look at overall.

Any money/prize table comes into play as well.

Ps. USPSA IS WAY BETTER than IAMGAY

Have you inquired at any if the local clubs if they have a shooting league. I think there's a decent amount of clubs doing defensive shooting on a weekly basis. I personally had no clue until I met the right people and come to find out there's a ton of them within an hour drive.

oh! they will care. there is always some asshole that will through you under the bus.....always some asshole clearing he guns and looking for a SS trigger pin, or stippling on the slide.....just to throw you outta production......especially if you are beating said asshole.

Even if so, I bet they would let you shoot and then DQ after. Most organizations are trying to get new shooters in not scare them off. Now if the Op is competing for a top spot it would get sticky. I guess is a first timer isn't going to challenge the the top guys anyway.


Worse case shoot in the open class, still allows one to shoot, get scores, practice and have fun.

One of the other gun clubs I belong to (well need to reup at) is just down the road into PA. And trust me it sucks living that close to free America

Which side note, me and the GF are looking to buy a house soon (hopefully) and it will be right over the boarder in PA, Bradford county, this way it's only 15 20 min more of a drive to work not a big deal but the Chemung County sheriff is giving all Bradford county PA residents their NY unrestricted license so I wouldn't have to give mine up

Update

Was on the phone with Glock today. Will be able to get my G19 frame replaced for $100.

Down side is, I have to send my current g19 frame to them and it sounds like the turn around time is 2 weeks

Down side? 2 weeks?

That is nothing. Many repairs take 4-10 weeks. Custom stuff up to a year.

Two weeks? Pppssstt!

That'd be about a 3.5 hour drive. Not horrible

They are expecting contestants from all over! Looking at 4 days to set-up the stages ( I don't shoot this myself )

I know its preference buy I would send the 17 in and get it replaced. 17 would be better for competition and the 19 cut is a better carry size to keep. Also if you get rid of the 26 sized frame any 26 mags you have would be useless(unless you send them to me)

When you send the frame in the new one will likely need to go through an fll and will have a different seriel number so you will need you permit amended.

Another option is to go to gunbroker and buy a new frame gen3s are about 150 and gen4s are about 200.

I didnt know that. A friend had a frame that a rail broke and Glock replaced it but didnt switch the number. That would have been a lot easier.

So the 17 isn't really a priority for me right now, as it' not going to be carried any time soon.

Personally that is no difficulty carrying a 19, I don't any point based on the way I dress, carry, and life style that a 26 is really needed. Hell I'm running the chopped 19 with 19 mags so just need the replaced grip for a slightly better feel and to throw on a magwell.

I'm more concernd with my dedicated carry gun that I can eventually game with maybe a few times over the year. And if I get into it into it then I'll build a dedicated gamer gun

Did not know this, I'll have to call them back, the guy said they would be destroying the frame so I figured issuing me a new serial number and id just have a non matching slide and frame which isn' a big deal, but this would save me 2 trips to the issuing office one to remove the current number (and cost me $5) and then another trip adding the new number (another $5)

I did tell them I was in NY and they did say it'd have to ship via FFL
