Three fathers who were separated from their young children when they tried to migrate to the US want millions of dollars in compensation from the US government for the toll the months of separation took on their families.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and law firm Covington & Burlington filed administrative claims Thursday seeking damages from the US government on behalf of three men who were separated from their children at the border. The separation caused lasting harm for the families, the advocacy group and law firm said in a news release

Honest question: if a person knowingly commits a crime and is imprisoned for it and in so being is separated from his children, is that not analogous to what this guy is complaining about?

Were these people showing up to the border openly and honestly and planning on going through the legal process or were they border jumpers? I'm pretty sure it's the latter.

I wouldn't go that far. After all, border jumping shouldn't be a death sentence.

However, based on the behavior of the fathers in putting their children in unnecessary risk, I would immediately remove the children from their custody permanently. The fathers would then be sentenced for breaking the Law.
