We did not have hunter saftey courses in school but I was on our schools rifle team for a few years.
I come from a non gun owning home.
My parents are not anti gun by any means, but neither have ever owned a gun.
Even though I didnt live in their house full time after I turned 18, I had a room and it was full of guns. They just didnt go in there.
Anyways, between rifle club in school and my best friends dad, I learned about guns and gun saftey.
All my friends who were raised around guns or taught about them at a young age, have respect for guns, they know how to handle them saftley and did not "worship" guns.
And when they played with fake guns as kids, still followed safe handling protocol.
Friends whos parents didnt allow them to learn about real guns, had no respect for guns real or fake.
Ill bet kids who see guns as the "forbidden fruit" are far more likely to misuse guns when the get older.
To us who learned about guns early, guns were not forbidden and therefore not a big deal.
