Tuesdays are steel target nights at the local range. Always a great time. Tonight however, stood out for a few reasons. The good. One of the guys (who is an incredible shooter) was shooting what appeared to be a typical 1911 until I saw the huge fireball shooting out of the barrel with each shot, heard the loud report, and saw what the targets did. I thought it was a 10mm with hot loads or something, but no. It was a Coonan semi auto 357 magnum. How freaking cool?! I've heard of them, but never saw one in action.
The bad. I'm shooting, no big deal. Then a piece of hot brass hits me in the forehead, and goes between my glasses and my eye. I may have squealed like a little girl. Fuk that hurt. As if that wasn't bad enough, a few rounds later, I got smacked in the face really hard with what I thought was another spent case. Nope. Ricochet. Right in the cheek bone. Bleeding like mad. Shit that hurt. I've been hit with stuff here and there, but never with that much force. The round hit a flat edge that was on one of the targets. Hopefully next week is more uneventful.
