Not enough info, but it sounds like he was deemed a danger to himself, so let's go fuck with him and get more people hurt.

We'll never hear more about this unless he had a "ghost gun" or "assault weapon", or investigators find a manifesto and a MAGA hat.

Maybe he was a total lunatic, or maybe he had no plans to harm anyone at all. Not siding with the guy (without details), but I bet if LE didn't show up to serve an involuntary commitment order, nobody would have been injured that day.

What did they expect? When you go to someone's home to take them away and steal their property they just might not want to go!

The article(s) didn't mention involuntary commitment for anything about firearms, but I still think going to take someone from their home without being arrested for a crime, still falls under the 'Red/Yellow Flag' umbrella.

These are the reasons why no one wants to become a police officer anymore.

10 years ago I was thinking about it, but being around retired cops telling me reasons why they retired, just made me not want to take that endeavor. Glad I didn't.

20-30 years ago... sure. You helped people out on the side of the road, had more leeway on giving people tickets or just warnings, etc. No video cameras and GPS watching when you take a break, etc. People were less crazy/more respectful. Now, hell no! Heck, I wouldn't even trust my fellow officers from some of rank crap I hear.

As more and more home visits and domestic disturbances, result in unfortunate but predictable actions, the message is clear to law enforcement.

Maybe the matters should be reviewed, if no criminal complaint has been filed or 911 call.
Phone calls go a long way, even for process servers, who are evaded regularly.

Cops are supposed to be social workers today.........
Committments should be reviewed by the attorney for the target, before actions....unilateral actions..after all we are in the era of appearance tickets and NO BAIL.
