Not sure about "most evil". There have been a few with higher intensity, but nobody beats the ChiCom's for sheer industrial volume.
The Nazi's have nothing on them.

There are many place that had a higher intensity of evil, what made the Nazi's truly horrible is their application of modern industrial methods and sheer German efficiency to it.

I think anyone who thinks China is the most evil nation today, has little understanding of the world.

N. Korea comes to mind as being worse to their citizens (and I use the term citizens incredibly loosely). They don't permit their people to enjoy anything. They don't join the rest of the world in commerce or travel.
The ChiComs do at least allow their countrymen to enjoy some controlled perks. They do participate in the global economy. They aren't a friendly government to their citizens, but to compare them to Nazi Germany? That can't even be put into the same conversation.

Agreed. I don't know if I'd classify China as "evil." China is asshole certainty, and while the modern state is authoritarian I'd still rather live there than North Korea or Venezuela.

Wow, so many to choose from. Are we talking murder by the numbers, or per capita? Far and away China wins the numbers, I would say Cambodia wins in a per capita, N Korea may be in the running but their totals are largely unknown. The terror of living under such can't be measured.

There are a few that are more evil, as in diabolical, but of those none have the ability to do the damage China can. Venezuela and N Korea do not have the industrial might, military capability or natural resources that China has.

Before we can come to a consensus on this, we'd need a definition of evil that includes a way to quantify it.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, pretty bad shit going on there and the Government either watches or they turn a blind eye to the bad/evil.
Myanmar, all kinds of evil brewing there.

I don’t think most evil equates to greatest suffering.
You basically have to decide if you are talking about the most evil individual acts, or the greatest total amount of evil.
In the first category it's going to be very hard to measure, since individual acts of evil are usually well covered up. China probably does things at least as horrible as anyone else, they just have a much better mechanism for controlling what gets out publically.
As for the second, NK and friends just cannot compete with China at scale.
North Korea would have to eliminate 10% of their population just to equal the number China has sitting in concentration camps *right now*.

I watched a multipart doc last year on the history of China (I believe it was hosted by Michael Palin.
He raised an interesting point: in terms of the relationship between the Chinese people and their rulers, the biggest change in the last millennium or two is the name change to Communism. China operates pretty much as it always has in a lot of ways...and really, aside from single-party rule with tight control, isn’t even communist. They figured out how to out-capitalist the capitalists. Hundreds of millions have been lifted out of poverty...but you have to weigh the vast number of eggs they broke to make that omelet, especially during the cultural revolution, and beyond to Tibet and the Uighurs, and more.
I’d say, inherently evil? No. But not a place I’d like to call home for sure. Stalinist Soviet Union was way worse, especially with Beria and the NKVD. At least in Nazi Germany, Aryans had a lot more going for them than basically anybody in the Soviet Union and especially Russia. China is similar to Nazi Germany in that it’s pretty easy to keep a boot off your neck if you check the right boxes.

Well, involuntarily "reeducation" is typically the euphamism the most evil regimes use for their worst crimes.
My understanding of these chinese "re-education" camps is that they include all the worst stuff from history, with some modern twists. Nobody in the past was ever capable of organ harvesting for profit for instance.
I am sure some of what's reported is propaganda, but if only some of what's reported is true, these *are* Nazi scale horror.
And the fact remains that they *are* successfully eliminating an entire people. When it comes to "evil" genocide is pretty much the top of the pyramid.
You are correct. I think the bigger issue than which country is the worst, is that we even have to have this conversation.
