yeah for some reason gifting gets confused with straw purchases. Out in Oregon one store told me I could not pay for a pistol my daughter wanted. But the clerk who told me I could not pay for it with my card said there is an ATM in the parking lot where I could withdraw the cash, hand it to my daughter and then she could pay for it. We walked out and went to another store where they took my payment without an issue.
Or if you have to pay taxes on it to keep the govt from seizing it.
My father did the same for me when I first got my permit. All that was required was a letter from him stating he was giving the pistol to me. I did the normal amendment thing, but rather than having to wait for a coupon from the judge, my dad was able to just give me the pistol even before I got my amendment because it was family. Transfers between immediate family are still okay without nics in NY.

I just can’t buy it because I’m under 21 and federal law says I can’t buy a pistol. So I can get it gifted? I know my friends father gifted him his pistol (my friend has his pistol permit but he can’t go out and buy a pistol bc he’s 19)
In NY you can't get a pistol permit at all if you're under 21 IIRC.

Pretty common for national guard. We get DD214s from basic training and anytime you’re on title 32/10. So as long as you have a dd214 you’re golden.

Not all that uncommon seeing as you can enlist at 17. The Army offers enlistment contracts of two years, three years, four years, five years, and six years and then there are also medical discharges.
You can’t enlist for 2, only when you go to reenlist you can go for 2.
