To say the Republicans of old didn't evolve to what they are now and always were the same way is ridiculous. The same can be said of Libertarianism. A Libertarian of today isn't a Libertarian of old. There's Left Libertarianism and Right Libertarianism.
The point is that parties evolve. They mesh together. Creating another party in a 2 party system which is what we have whether you like it or not is suicide. Some Republicans are Bible thumpers and some aren't. Some are for abortion and some aren't. Some Libertarians are for no taxes whatsoever and some aren't. So should those Libertarians branch off and create their own party?
It's better to run as one of the 2 parties than create another one insuring that none of your values are represented. Anyone can see that and anyone can see Libertarians of today winning seats as Republicans representing those Libertarians that voted for them. That's the point.
You call yourself a Libertarian but I can guarantee that you don't believe in all their current ideologies on all given issues and other Libertarians don't believe in all your ideology.
If those Libertarians branch off and other Republicans branch off, there will be hundreds of parties and no one majority will ever get their values represented.

It really is one party. Government. I had a conversation with an ex-professor. He walked away from his career when he didn't agree with what they wanted him to teach. i said to him that what we have is a two party dictatorship.
He said, "No one."
