Is Stockpiling Food Illegal in the United States?​

Stockpiling food when there is no current or forecasted emergency is not illegal. When there is plenty of food to go around, you are free to stockpile it. During a time of crisis, scarcity, or government emergency declaration, food may be in short supply. Hoarding during this time can be deemed illegal.

Under a state of emergency, the government might exercise its right to confiscate supplies from civilians.

The Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution prohibits the unreasonable search and seizure of a person, their home, and their belongings without a search warrant. For a search warrant to be issued, a “probable cause” must be established and approved by the judiciary court before a person and/ or their home and belongings are searched.
The problem arises if and when the government operates under martial law. Several presidents have signed executive orders which will override any constitutional rights, freedoms, and provisions we have as citizens. Under marital law, anything we own will no longer be ours, including the emergency food, water, and weapons you may have stockpiled for such an event.


In March 2012, Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13603, better known as the “National Defense Resources Preparedness” which enables the Federal government to confiscate and re-distribute all potable water, food, and whatever resources are necessary to protect the United States during a state of emergency.

Problem here is that folks need not advertise they have stuff stored up.

Make it look like you are living meal to meal and that tomorrow could be the day you die of starvation. That includes losing a little weight if you are a little stocky by eating less. Meanwhile you have enough food to feed an army 3 meals a day for 5 years.

With social media, the Internet (yes, that includes forums like this place), and just general talking in public you never know who's listening or watching. It's too easy to incriminate yourselves.

Went grocery shopping this morning. This was the beef and chicken section. I've never actually seen it so low it was low enough where I thought to take pics to share. Many other areas in particular the frozen food section was much more sparse than usual. I took pics of that as well but I'm in the reflection on the glass doors.


Batten down the hatches guys it's going to keep getting worse and I can't imagine it's going to be improving any time soon.

Was at Walmart yesterday (Clay) and ran into a guy I know that works there. He was saying that between the lack of Walmart drivers and bad decision making for restock routes, they are getting trucks late or not at all. They've also contracted with swift for trucking (take from that what you will, lol). Apparently, they have a plan to go through the stores and ask any employee if they want to drive. If they do, they'll pay for all the training and whatever costs associated with it. I bet that will create a shortage in store employees, so expect that the single line that's never open to stay that way.
