Israel is about the size of New Jersey with a population of about 10 million.
Since this is a gun forum -
Israel's citizens are required to serve in the military and maintain possession of their issued weapon while serving.
However, Israel has no Second Amendment equivalent.
It does allow civilian gun ownership by permit with valid reason, subject to mental and physical verification by a doctor, proficiency courses and security checks. It is a may issue country and permits must be renewed every 2 years, including a proficiency exam.
Civilian gun ownership is about 2% of the population, but growing.
Gun ownership is typically limited to one pistol with 50 rounds of ammunition at a given time.
Carry can be limited in many places, including synagogues.
Palestine supposedly also has restrictive gun laws (although you wouldn't think so by what we see in western media), BUT they are not enforced in the Gaza Strip.

I whole heartedly support the "never again:" mantra, but the Solutions for "Safety" have come at the cost of Ciilian Gun Ownership as thought THEY were the problem.
As it was reported a couple days ago, Civilian ownership of guns by persons not actively involved in Government operations (Police, EMS, security, etc.) only amounted to 3% as it is very difficult to obtain Government Permission to obtain or keep a gun. (in Israel) which given their history and constant specter of hostilities, surprises the shit out of me.
IF we can just take the gun out of the hands of the honest, perhaps they'll think themselves safe and secure because no one except those special/elite/credentialed people of the Government will have guns...the irony is the very people that think this way are the least likely to commit violent crimes against Society, and now as they're being invaded and slaughtered, permission is forthcoming from the Government that took them in the first place...I wonder how many form, identifications, certificates of training, hold harmless agreements, proof of citizenship, and even signing documents making them wholly responsible for each weapon and disposition form for ammunition?
Anything you get from the Government comes with stipulations, requirements, and recourse they can take against you.
