This morning, I was sitting at one of the local MUA wood lots surrounded by no squirrels getting frustrated and depressed. I decided for a change of scenery.
At hand was the 30’s vintage Iver Johnson Champion 12 ga that I picked up at a gun show about 7 years ago. It has a 28 inch full choke barrel and single-shot break action. I keep it in my car with a belt of mostly low brass 2 3/4 inch #6 lead game loads. There are also some slugs in the belt for bears.
It is a great companion for walking through the reclaimed forest and abandoned farmsteads along the Vernooy Kill west of the Shawangunks.
Still, no squirrel.
