Vance seems to be a legit populist and America first. His voting record is actually pretty good in that regard, I think. If he really is that guy, he's a MUCH better pick than most of the other establishment "Republicans". If the VP is 100% going to carry on with Trump's agenda, it provides some assassination insurance.
I find it very telling that the pick is Vance AND that it came at the beginning of the RNC rather than the end.

Mixed feelings on this one. Never read Hillbilly Elegy (or seen the movie) but I get the impression he embellished a lot of it, particularly his personal experiences. The book was supposed to be more sociographic about poverty in poor whites in Appalachia when in reality he only grew up on the fringe of that culture. I'm not holding this against him necessarily but it leans towards being a bit disingenuous.
More importantly I don't really see what he brings to the ticket. Whether we like it or not a lot of folks play identity politics. Many fence sitters (and that's who we're trying to court) will just see another white guy. He may pull some millennials (that's his and my demographic) but I think we would've been better with a Hispanic (like Marco Rubio) or a black guy (like Tim Scott) or a woman. I was kind of hoping for Vivek but I knew he was an unlikely choice (though I still hope he has a place in this administration).
Overall, not a terrible pick, but I think he could've done better.

I can see the appeal but she is not pro 2a. I honestly can't even give you my first pick because they are all disappointments. I wanted Lake at one point.
