When I went looking for a new snow blower about ten years ago, I went to the John Deere dealer because my old John Deere was a workhorse until it finally rusted beyond repair. The dealer told me to buy an Ariens instead, because of the shit quality of the "new" John Deere! I took his advise and have not regretted it.

New John Deere snowblowers are MTD. Same with lawn tractors and home depot JD equipment. MTD is trash, they make "yard machines" and all they basically do is paint a yard machines machine green, change out some plastic to be shaped slightly different, and call it a John deere.

Of course wages/labor here in the US costs more than Mex, chy-na, etc. But also, US business/manufacturing and products are over regulated.
There's a thread going on here about exterior deck finishes. We can't get a product here in NYS that protects a wood deck for more than a season or two. And I have a friend that was in the Hardwood flooring business. Years ago he complained about how the current floor coatings and urethanes have been regulated such that they don't hold up to foot traffic like they should. He said at the time, the best wood floor products are the prefinished flooring imported from Mexico, because in Mex they use good quality surface finishing products.

The left tries to tell everyone it's the wages, but it's not.

Sure, the Mexicans are cheaper, but they're also less productive.

American workers can be very competitive, if the businesses are allowed to operate efficiently.

But, if you've got a union that requires you to keep 3 slackers on the payroll for every hard worker, and you've got a regulatory state that requires an engineering study and en environmental assessment before you can fix a pothole in he parking lot, it doesn't matter how much the labor costs, it just makes sense to leave.
