Just noticed this n Erie county permit they say course recommended for applying for ccw

I just noticed that they added a line stating that the judge is requesting for you to take an NRA course above and beyond your mandatory safety course before applying for a CCW. I think they are looking for a intro to concealed carry course. The instructors should be happy. I think it's BS, but at least they put the info out there so you know what to expect.

When my wife and son applied for their CCW in Erie they took the full NRA course (minus the live fire). They shot with air guns instead. A friend was teaching the course and allowed me to sit in. It was a nice interactive course. You can not get the actual NRA certificate until you do the actual live fire however the instructor noted this in the training certificate and stated he'd complete that with the participants once the CCW was in hand (included in course fee.)

At the beginning of the course, everyone was issued a blue training gun, throughout the course the instructor and assistant instructor critiqued safe/unsafe firearm handling. You grabbed coffee with it, ate lunch with it, went to the bathroom with it. That is not the norm for an NRA course. I was amazed at the amount of unconscious mistakes I made.

When I applied to have restrictions removed from my permit I submitted the NRA course certificate, Erie clerks said that was a good move. Permit is unrestricted.

Exactly which course did you take (Into to Concealed Carry?), how long ago, offered by whom, and what was the cost?

I took it with FTNY about 1 year ago and it was $110 I think. Great guy. A little expensive for what it is, but they all are.

Well damn.....not exactly the news I was looking for, in the process now and obviously didn't hear about this till now....bummer but at least your getting the info out there for people just starting the application process

Hmm, haven't looked at the site in a while. While poking around today I also found this.

Seems that the troopers are accepting aw registrations which would make an instant felon since the Safe Act deadline for registration was years ago.

I brought my NRA pistol course certificate to my face to face interview yesterday and the interviewer told me not to add anything extra to my file. Seemed like he thought it would just add unnecessary paperwork?

In any case, I took it in P.A. (twice) and it was a great class. Although now, half is online and half is on range. Before, it was half classroom, half on range. I liked the computer version better as the instructor was kinda dry. Was much more expensive with the new version. $85 all on site vs $120 online

I got an NRA Trainer Update two weeks ago. They're relaunching the classroom version of the class. Soon, either option will be available. The course packets are already available to instructors.

I'm a NRA pistol instructor and Chautauqua county made me take their course which was basically the NRA pistol course (which I teach.) Ummm . . .

Did you take The NRA Basic Pistol course? The First portion is online now and then their is the Range Portion.
