I looked at them when I was getting my 9mm carbine.
People that have them seem to like them as far as shooting them goes but hate that you need tools to disassemble them.
I wanted a regular AR type in 9mm so I went with Lone Wolf.
The video below shows how hard it is to disassemble.

It's the only NY legal PCC in 40 S&W that I can find. I am not paying $900 for a Ruger PC4 or Marlin Camp 40.

Here is what I did. I ordered this to my FFL. It went on his form as an other.

Then I ordered this to my door. Mine was in 9mm. This one is in .40 S&W.

I slapped on a Thordsen Stock myself and sent my upper to a gunsmith so he can pin and weld a thread cap on. The best thread cap I've seen are the ones from Thordsen. They are thick.

Well then you can build you own if you are looking for a budget build. @GUNSICK can probably help you with that.
If using tools to break it down is okay for you however, then go for it.
I went down this same route. I even looked at the Aero one too. In the end, I went with the G9 so that I can use AR parts and not have to go with the 17 inch barrel that JRC uses. I don't understand why they use a 17.

I would build it like Phazer did. If you aren't mechanically inclined or just don't have the tools, a Smith can assemble the upper for you. The lower anybody can do.
If you go with the takedown models of both the Aero and the JRC, the lengths will be longer and you are stuck with only being able to use their handguards.
If you don't go with the takedown models, you still have to use tools to clean it. You'll never be 100 percent happy. If a new bolt, spring, or buffer comes out, it will not be compatible with your setup. If you want to go lightweight, you can't. Ect. Ect.

I have the JRC in 9mm Glock, Take Down configuration. It is a GREAT shooting gun, it does require some work to take it down to clean it, but the only tool needed is an AR wrench. it's not all that bad. It is fully configurable for left or right hand discharge, as well as charging handle. It shoots anything I toss through it. I run mine with a Glock 33 round, 9mm magazine without any hiccups. I have probably put 3,000 rounds through mine since I bought it late last year. It is heavy, but then again, if I have to "run and gun" I'm taking my AR15 with me.

My 45acp version has been very reliable, I load handload a tad over +p and the unit has been flawless. The cleaning rumors are over stated, it doesn't get as dirty as my AR does. If I have to nit pick anything is the lower receiver/to upper is held in place with three screws, push pins would have been better. As far as function it is way more reliable than my Marlin Camp 45, plus it uses AR trigger groups...

Are uppers and lowers interchangeable with the ones that are more AR style? So like Lone Wolf, CMMG, New Frontier, Etc. I'm getting very interested in getting a pistol carbine to go with my Glock. I have a 23 and also a 9mm conversion barrel/mags. I'd like to find one that is set up/built like an AR, but it needs to take Glock Mags.
No, the upper and lower are proprietary to J&R. If I was gonna do AR like carbine again, I would do a dedicated AR glock lower, and go that route over the J&R. Nothing against J&R, I just feel the proliferation of quality AR PCC lowers in the last year or so has really changed my decision. Years ago (4) J&R was the best option.

I guess my question was more about the various AR style carbines, not the J&R's. I know J&R is proprietary. But ones like Lone Wolf, CMMG, Etc. Some mention taking Colt style mags and mention nothing of Glock. Also would I be able to take a Lone Wolf lower and put a CMMG or New Frontier upper and bolt carrier group on it?

All ar15 uppers will fit on ar15 lowers. Even if the lowers are 9mm specific.

I mean AR style 9mm/40 lowers and other 9mm/40 uppers from various brands. Are they all interchangeable or are there some AR patterned ones that aren't do to some small amount of proprietary design? For instance: would a New Frontier 9mm upper, fit a Lone Wolf 9mm lower and function properly and vise versa?

They are interchangeable to my knowledge being that frame of both the lower and upper are milspec. The only thing you have to watch out for is the bolt. Ramped vs unramped depending on the hammer you use.
A ramped bolt lets you use a standard milspec hammer instead of the special notched 9mm hammer.
