Just submitted my application Ulster County

Hi everyone just wanted to post and say I finally submitted my application last Thursday 5/9/19 in ulster county. The guy at the sheriffs told me in about 2 months I should hear from the judge for an interview and the whole process should take 4-6 months. Obviously going for full carry so wish me luck. I know it depends on the judge but I have a lot of friends and family that have all received unrestricted full carry without even having to meet with a judge. I hope to keep the streak going. When I go to meet the judge what should I expect and what should I say/not say?

With any luck you will get judge Williams before he retires. I'm pretty sure that he is the judge who issues permits without an interview. Keep us posted.

Congrats on submitting the paper work ! I also got my pistol permit in Ulster County. Process took just shy of the 5 month mark. I got approved in August 2018. The judge that interviewed me approved my application however, he did put target restrictions. He told me to take a live fire course and have the instructor fill out a form he gave me. After that he told me to submit everything and he would lift the restrictions on my permit. As far as the interview goes. The judge did a lot of referring back to the letter you write explaining why you need a pistol permit. Keep us updated !

Good luck. Just got mine back in March. Took about 4 months. Ulster Sheriffs department is pretty on the ball with timing estimates. If judge asks if you plan on carrying on a daily basis say yes. Sounds silly but that was the make or break question in my interview. Also give article 35 a quick read? Dress nice/ suit

I had Judge Ball. He asked what my needs for a pistol were, who lived with me, where would I store it, did I intend to take lessons, did I have prior experience or training, did I plan on carrying in restaurants ect, would I be safe. A bit intimidating at first but pretty straight forward and quick.

I do quite a bit of back country hiking, camping, hunting, fishing. I think I said something about self defense/ safety and explained that I had a solid understanding of article 35. He asked if I’d carry daily like when I was out to dinner and at the mall and I said yes wherever lawful to do so. Say “your honor” when addressing the judge.
