...I already know the answer, but the more I learn about the SAFE act, the less I understand it. I’m moving up there soonish, so I need to understand this fully, even if I have to ask really dumb questions.

I have a really pretty .22lr revolver. I got it for $75 (sorta), it’s a really nicely kept piece, I can’t even guarantee that I didn’t bust her cherry. Llama Comanche III with a 6” heavy barrel. It’s .22lr, if you didn’t catch that the first time. It’s a revolver. It still needs a handgun permit?

Hell, we can't even have Wrist Rocket sling shots.....But you can have a black powder pistol without a permit....as long as you do not have powder & shot ( and caps if used). Not sure if they can ding you for have a chunk of stone ( flint) if that is how its ignited.

Eh? I can have a cap and ball so long as there’s nothing to load it with? Didn’t realize there was a rash of liquor store robberies with cap and ball revolvers.

You even need a permit for a single shot percussion cap dueling pistol, if you also have shot and powder.

Just another meaningless law meant to control the growing number of machete attacks in NYC.
Its always been a crime to have a machete with the intent of using it unlawfully against another person.

As the wise members if this fine forum already suggested to you in your previous queries, you need a permit so either leave it in Tx with your parents or sell it before you relocate. Although NY releases thugs without bail and releases dangerous felons from prison on a whim, if you as a Texas boy wanders in here with an unlicensed handgun, a normal Academy Sporting Goods sporting rifle, or a normal capacity magazine this state will tan your ass with prejudice and life as you know it will forever change.

Similarly you may have an issue with many of the pocket knives sold at your local Walmart that you may have thought you would pack and in NYC they even have some of their own special rules for pocket knives.

The “safety” inspections don’t seem to differ that much between here and there...maybe some tires are in order, which is fine since this will be my winter beater and I’m going to put it on snows anyway.

Ironically, California was the most lax of all...no inspections, and I drove pre-smog cars, so all I did was write a tiny check. It was cheaper to register them there than here in TX, too.

You may also fail the NYS FUAC tint inspection. Family had an OEM stock truck bought in Tx fail on front windows, a TX Safelite replacement Nissan fail on a Trooper stop in NY (the FUAC windshield sticker was designed to print VOID when scraped off in TX to apply on replecement which got me stopped twice shortly after entering NYS on Rt 84) and another Safelite Tx replacement on a Subaru fail on annual inspection. Safelite replaced both again for free. Son had aftermarket tint applied by dealer in SAT on his Focus RT and failed in NY when visiting and stopped by a trooper in Westchester even though he had out of state plates (was scolded and warned with no ticket). So in a small vehicle population we got snakebite four times.

The tint was not an option. They were factory standatd glass. NYS issued tint standards and many stock vehicles delivered in the South although they are in spec apparently have issues with FUAC new rules. The Safelite guy said the FUAC standard is a BS issue that they have run in to more than a few times with in spec batches of glass. My glass did not looked tint either, I'll check for pics.
