I'll never understand her harping on the bussing issue. I grew up in Mass. and, though I was a little kid, I remember the complete shit show caused by Judge Garrity and his forced bussing mandate. I don't know what other parts of the country were like but it turned the poor neighborhoods in Boston into war zones, caused massive drop out rates, and accomplished massive racial division in the city. The policy basically forced students to leave the crappy public school in their neighborhood with the friends they grew up with to be trucked to other schools across the city to schools where they were unwanted. This was highlighted in the media as racist riots by the predominately white South Boston residents however it was every bit as bad for the students being bussed into the black neighborhoods like Roxbury. It was so bad many students dropped out rather than go to schools where they were unsafe. It was a horrible progressive experiment that failed miserably.
