Kitchen makeover

So old 60's style kitchen overhang colonial hinges needs a makeup....




Removed hardware and doors/ drawers





Scoured doors and face frames with TSP (substitute)

Filled screw holes with wood filler...



New 3/8 inset hinges with satin pulls....



Sanding and priming tomorrow... paint on Wed....

I actually quoted project with existing hardware... just clean and paint....

Bought new hardware because that's what should be done....

Then said we could put trim on doors to make them look shaker style...

I'm a sucker, lol... Bought new hardware for free. Backed off on trim when I saw it was $13 per 8' lol.... I really try my best to make customer's happy. Can't go broke doing so, lol...

BTW, primer and paint was $130 at my discounted cost. UGH!!!!

Prices are insane these days. Even with the hardware that you bought it will save you a ton of time and detail work. Plus painting that stuff never lasts too long. The paint always comes off the hardware since it’s metal and a hard use surface.

Sanding all day!

Took me about 10 hours to sand 20 doors... came out nice though. Shame they have to be painted. Beautiful cherry (laminate). Definitely going to spray these now that they're flat.

you should see my kitchen cabs hung at the ceiling .. pulls are in the damn middle of the door and not at the bottom LOL ..

Took me about 10 hours to sand 20 doors... came out nice though. Shame they have to be painted. Beautiful cherry (laminate). Definitely going to spray these now that they're flat.

couldn't talk them into a clear lacquer coating .. so you can get high on the bananas smell lol ? .. that is what lacquer smells like to me .. and what i used on the cabs in this home .. i'm with ya .. i rather have the wood look , then paint on it ..

Need the same style doors for "H" hinges to work the leaf on door is curved to match profile on door. Believe they are copper plated steel as some of them had a bit of rust.

Vinegar bath to remove the rust .. takes a good week or 2 soaking

you should see my coat rack by the front door .. old pine tongue & groove boards and old ceramic door knobs to hang your coat on

there mounted on a cleat board i call it .. i can just lift them up and remove them if needed .. the phone / internet jacks are behind it

so there like free floating on the wall

Coming out great. Yes too bad they want them painted. Those would look nice sealed.

Built a spray booth of sorts and got the doors and drawer fronts primed today. I brushed/rolled the face frames. Hopefully wrap this up tomorrow.



Used SW Extreme Bond primer which is a urethane based product. Think I'm still going to fill grain tomorrow and do another round of light sanding can still see a few dimples where the old hardware screws were.

Filled grain, sanded again and got backs painted coming out sweet. Hope I have enough paint to spray fronts lol.

Well got the face frames and fronts painted going to let them dry overnight and hang tomorrow. Coming out really nice. Using SW Emerald urethane trim enamel MSRP is $95 / gal. Even at pretty good contractor dis ount its about $55 / gal. Expensive but results speak for themselves highly recommended if any of you fellas are considering painting your cabinets. Brushed the face frames and refinished the butcher block (it was in pretty poor condition wish I took a pic) using Watco food safe butcher block oil needs a light sanding and another coat tomorrow
