Knife laws?

Someone break down into simple terms what is legal or not in NY as far as blades are concerned. I'm looking to fill out the collection but the pieces i have in mind are questionable.

I was under the impression you could pretty much own anything, but carrying is another issue.

Probably upstate too if an officer decides to use the NYC definition for "gravity knife" on you.

Knife laws in NYS, unlike the city, aren't as terrible as you'd think. No length limit. No lock restrictions. No autos unless hunting. No butterfly knives.

There is nothing to keep a pissed off upstate officer from using the NYC shenanigans against you either. Officers up here tend to be more reasonable, because non criminals are more likely to carry knives than NYC, but there should be actual legislative restraints that prevent them from doing doing so. IMHO the 2A should trump nearly all knife laws, I can't imagine a knife dangerous and unusual enough that it should be bannable.

By that logic there is nothing from keeping upstate cops from slapping you upside the head because you don't consent to a search of your vehicle.

Are Firefighters/EMS allowed to carry auto knives? I heard rumors but can't find anything in the law. Upstate not the shitty.

Last time I checked, switchblades are illegal, assisted knives are legal. Of course, NYC makes its own rules.
