@Bullet Guy, I can't remember if you said you are using the proprietary BCG or not.
Great thread, I am planning on making my first build an 7.62x39. Reason being is I already have an SKS and a Saiga 7.62 and plenty of ammo. Will be simpler on ammo acquisition. On a plain AR lower what upper do you all recommend? I was looking at an Olympic ARMs K16 (K30R16UR) for the upper. In my research I was told to get special mags, like this one
AR-Stoner Mag AR-15 7.62x39mm Anti Tilt Follower SS Black
would love to hear your thoughts
Got my mags today. The Bulgarian 10rd I bought snaps right in, but the BCG won't cycle with it. I also bought 3 Tapco mags, of which only one will seat for some reason (same mags). But with the functioning Tapco the BCG will cycle.
Looks like I'm in for a bunch of experimenting and messing around.
@Bullet Guy do you think I should attempt a dremel job on my BCG? The info is so spotty on this rifle. Ugh.
As far as mags, I'm going to see about going to PA to find a store that will let me test out different mags. I'm going to keep the Tapcos and see if I can file them down a bit to make them work.
The mag that fits best in the lower seems to be the one that catch on the BCG.
I'm going to try Magpul next. I'd come to you, but you're quite a drive just for mags. Gun Mag Warehouse will ship to me.
You bought a kit though no? You're using the KS-47 BCG or a regular one?
I was hoping to use the regular BCG I have been using in my AR-47 for the last few years. I guess not. Now I have to wait for the KS-47 one to be in stock. This blows.
Looking online it seems I may have the option to shave the bottom of the regular one but that can't be as easy as it seems.
Whew. The BCG just came into stock.
The Palmetto KS47 stripped upper finally came into stock today. Of course I had a moment of weakness and now have an upper and lower on the way. Can't wait. I love the 7.62x39 for hunting and as you saw with my thread last week have been going nuts over the mags for awhile now. Besides, I need a new project.
Why not just get an AK though? They're built like a damn tank, and if the SHTF, the damn thing can run with little to no maintenance almost.
Hell, shoe strings and motor oil work well enough to keep it going fine.
For me....accuracy. The ak is a geat urban warfare rifle. And it does it well in houses and on a city street.
But i dont do urban warfare. I would like a bit better accuracy that the average off the shelf ak will give. 4 inch groups is just not what i am looking for. The average ak dors not take optics as easily either. So shooting out past 100, at targets i shoot at (2-4 moa targets), gets a bit more difficult.
This season i plan to shoot my ks47 in 3 gun and see how it does. Should be fun.
I'd like to get an AK eventually, but for now I'm definitely an AR guy and wanted to stick with what I am familiar with.
It depends greatly on the AK and how it was built. It will always be less accurate than an AR, but not that inaccurate.
.
please share your accuracy results. what kinda groups? how far? which rifle.
i build $1000ish AR15 that will give sub MOA. they are available in my shop. they are bullet guy rifles.
I plan to offer the ks47 with a match barrel as well soon. Just to see what it will do.
i do like AKs. i have a couple. they look cool. they just do not shoot all that well outta the box (i have stock issues, sight issues, and optic connectivity issues. also i wish they were milspec....lol. . all these are non issues on a standard AR is my point).
i have a nice arsenal SLR, and a polish AK made by us, bullet guy, (and has a giggle switch.... ) i could not locate my AK bayo for the picture....sorry
i like Aks. i kinda like all guns.....

Guess what I did today?
Went smoothly. This was my first time installing a delta ring assembly. I really like the feel of the MOE handguards. I can't wait to test it out on Wednesday.
