I see a lot wrong with this deal and the STAMP project. First why put in there since it’s right next to a nature preserve. Seems like a horrible place. These use tons of energy so is there enough power there. Next it’s right next to native land and we seem to continually crap on them while Hochul says how she loves them. Oh and insure this is great for our carbon footprint as well.
We all know the jobs will never come, mantles will be bent for them to come here and after the tax breaks are over the building will be vacant and lay waist with all the harmful crap leaking into the wildlife preserve right next door. The constant hum and all the electromagnetic waves coming out will surely make a great neighbor to the native Americans and animals present adjacent to this.

I forgot the best part of the deal. There isn’t enough power so they would run on generators. So green NYS is.

There also is a question of power supply.

The Stream proposal is estimated to need 250-megawatts of power, with a planned 600-megawatt substation at the site. For reference, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission estimates one megawatt can power between 400 and 900 homes in a year. The three proposals’ lighting, security, and IT systems are planned to be run on diesel backup generators, with tank capacity of 9,500 gallons.

I don’t care who you are you wouldn’t t this crap close to your house either. They make a constant humming noise that isn’t super loud but you can hear them for sure. There is one not far from me and you can hear the humming noise on a busy street from about a block or so away. I’d guess you could hear it from 2-3 blocks away. I wonder if it would drive pets nuts and cause them to bark or be uncomfortable.
A project like this belongs in an abandoned warehouse in a city somewhere not here next to homes and a wildlife refuge. They are not heavy employment places either and 250,000 square feet employs 50 people with most of them being sub contractors. This one might have 150-200 people there and I’ll bet many wot be from the surrounding area.

Yeah, I'm pretty much at ground zero as far as the STAMP project goes. I'm surrounded by the Alabama Swamps, the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area, the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, The Big Woods, and the Tonawanda Indian Reservation.

This area is made up of mostly major wetlands with farms and fields scattered in and around. There are more cows than people here, lots of rednecks with the Seneca Indians mixed in.

I'll just say for now the STAMP project would be/is, a horrible thing for this area. You have already covered some of the important points in your post.

This is absolutely the wrong area for something like this for several reasons. The local people here are by far, as in, almost all of us, are against it. It's a horrible location for something like this. It will damage the wetlands and probably change the whole character of this rural swampland/wetland farming area. And not for the good or any long-term benefit locally...

There has been squabbling between districts as to who is going to be financially responsible for the additional sewer needs (construction) and also construction in and around the "so-called protected wetlands" is creating issues. This is the worst spot/area for a project like this.

But as usual, it's a follow-the-money type of thing at the expense of the local people and the wildlife. I bought my property here in the swamps 35 years ago thinking this type of area would be safe from being developed. It was a good run while it lasted.

You mentioned in your post that "This one might have 150-200 people there and I’ll bet many won't be from the surrounding area." And you are 100% correct. That's why the area that was chosen is only 4-5 miles from an NYS Thruway exit/entrance. (48a)

I know very little about any of this, but one thing I do know is that state or federal money (as in tax abatements) should not be allowed to be used in this manner! If a local community wants a business to move in then the local residents should vote on it, after all THEY ARE THE ONE'S THAT WILL BENIFIT OR SUFFER, NOT ALBANY!

I’d love to hear more and get your inside thoughts. This makes me sick and it’s terrible.

I'll just say that the GCEDC (Genesee County Economic Development Center) is no friend of the Genesee County residents.

There have been multiple examples of bad decisions from that agency. In fact, the track record of other bad decisions that the GCEDC have made over the past years makes me think there is corruption abound and they are in on the take.

You all know how this state operates from the top down. The STAMP (Science, Technology and Advanced Manufacturing Park) project here in rural Western Genesee County actually has connections to Cuomo's Buffalo Billion fiasco.

This area is probably one of the worst areas for a project like this. Our local community will not benefit from this bullshit, the wetlands and wildlife will be damaged/harmed to some extent no matter what the assholes say and everyone here knows it. I dare say that has already happened to some degree.

The damage that will be done here locally will by far outweigh any positives that may come from this sort of facility. It sure does seem like another follow-the (corruption) money type of thing.

Just the fact that the so-called STAMP project has been in motion from one extent or another since 2009 and this is only as far as the project has gotten in the last 16 years speaks volumes on how wrong of an area this is for something like a data center. Not to mention it's smack dab in the middle of swamp and farm country inhibited by country folk. We don't want or need a "data center" located here. A John Deere dealership or a gun shop would make sense though.

If I were a potential developer of a data center that wasn't in on the Albany-funded corruption. Considering the difficulty of building something like that right in between Federally protected wetlands and an Indian reservation among a local people made up of mostly redneck hicks (and I mean that affectionately) would be a big nope. It just doesn't make any sense. Unless the follow the corrupt money is considered.

This example below (one of many) kind of sums up the whole shit show. IMO

In September, Orleans County sued Genesee County economic development agencies over that pipeline, arguing the agencies are violating state law by financing a project within Orleans County without its consent. State Supreme Court Justice Sanford Church issued an injunction temporarily halting work on the pipeline, which hadn't yet crossed into Orleans County.

“I have never seen anything like this,” said Jennifer Persico, the attorney representing Orleans County in the case. “I have been doing this a long time, and I’ve never run across one county undertaking a project in another county without that county’s consent.”

Among other things, there is a raised boardwalk that goes into the swamp. You won't even get your boots muddy but yet be standing in the middle of a swamp full of various wildlife.



Then next to that is the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.

Then there is the Alabama Swamps, some of you in and around the Buffalo-ish area may know there is a public range there.

Then there's the local bar, the Alabama Hotel, cold beers, and good food.
Okay, I'm getting carried away now...

I would like to check out this boardwalk. I had no clue it was there. It looks very nice. I’ve been to Iroquois and seen the birds there. Lots of eagles moving in this area.
I hate they want to do this. They took away a pond by me when I was a kid and turned it into a soccer field. I used to see tons of toads and some black with blue spotted salamanders around me. After that the populations plummeted and I have not seen a single one of those salamanders around. I built a pond in my yard to attract toads and it has worked. I had 13 toads in my smallish backyard pond one night last spring. I love to hear their sounds. It’s sad these scum lie about caring about the environment and then do this.
They will run this with generators come on. I can’t drive my car but we will give these morons my money to run generators 24/7 and pollute way more than I ever will.
