Latest purchase - Canik SFX Rival

It was a choice between:

Beretta 92X
Tisas 1911
Ruger LCR 357 Magnum

The Canik was too good of a price and the trigger was absolutely a delight. I was really torn between this and the Ruger, but at the end of the day, I'm only in PA every other weekend and a backup gun can wait.

It came with so many accessories including a holster; I can't use since I'm a lefty. Maybe Canik can swap out my holster for a lefty one. A magwel, weighted mag plates, back straps, 5 different optic plates (for all the brands/foot prints) a slide racker and all kinds of tools. The case is also of nice quality.

The trigger has a crisp, clean break and the reset is amazing.

The slide is comped from what I can tell and has ambidextrous slide releases, different sizes mag release buttons and it is swappable for lefty or righty.

Paid $649 plus tax

That’s a driver and bit tool for working on the gun. Canik made it look like a mini rival

I reached out to Canik and they wouldn't swap the holster to a LH for me, sucks.

I picked mine up today. First magazine I put the first 3 shots low and right as I was getting used to the sights, the next 7 shots I drilled the bullseye with it. Holy crap what an accurate gun.

Why?

The specs of tg PDP seem to align.

I have nothing against Canik, and want one myself as i like their color options, but the genuine article is not 2x the price.

My mags were modified by the shop I purchased from, they put a round limiter in them.

My rival SFX came with blocked mags that were limited to a low capacity 10 rounds. The mags are interchangeable with my TPSF. So if your FFL Will only sell it with no mags you can just get regular TP9 mags

Thanks. I might order one up next month, solid black, dark side. I guess it will depend on price. The chrome model has me highly interested but I'm afraid of how well the plating would hold up.

I love it. Followed the break in procedure and it has been flawless after the first mag. I’m at 850 rounds thru it now. Very flat shooting, very accurate and worth every penny.

caniks come slightly over sprung for 115gr. For the first week I left it in the safe with the slide locked back. After that I cleaned and lubricated the gun and mags. First 100 rounds was 124 gr ammo. Now it shoots 115, 124 or 147 gr no problem.

How are you liking the Rival?

I love it, the trigger is amazing and as FNG has said, it is a very flat shooter. Ive only put about 500 rounds through mine so far.

Haven't had any hiccups yet.

I’m thinking of adding a brass backstrap and brass flared magwell. Since this is a target / comp gun I’m not looking to give it a tactical look

Every modern gun today has that tactical look. Slide cuts, Optic cuts, red dot. But yes, The brass should give a little help, kinda like what SIG has done with the tungston grip.

They come in batches. So nobody will have any of them in stock and the suddenly everybody has them.

side note there is a big problem with the rival SFX and rival s I have found. They are so much fun to shoot my woman always grabs it when we go to range, so I never get to shoot it.
