Lead Cast Bullet Source?

Dardas my long time supplier of lead cast bullets has retired. (DAMN).

Who are you bulk reloading folks using for a source these days? I'm typically buying 2000 to 5000 annually in .38, .44 and .45. Just basic lead cast bullets with lube, no fancy alloys or coatings.

I used to use SNS exclusively before I make the jump to copper plated. With the new coatings and copper plating available now, I no longer see a need to use uncoated lead.

Well these are they guys I just bought a ton of bullets from. I have yet to load and shoot any.

I'm really curious about the coating. Reload data to use? What is the coating? Can coated bullets also be used for hunting (garden gun).

Acme is a solid company with a loyal following.

You use normal lead data for reloading coated bullets. People have reported pushing them to FMJ speeds with no problems. But I don't see the point of doing that.

There's 2 main coating.
1-Hi-tek probably the most common that you buy commercially. It's a proprietary system that is baked on. Also available to the home caster.
2- Polymer coated- Most common with hand caster and its powder coat paint.

Lastly there's a lot of people on cast boolits that have taken small and large game with coated bullets. In my non expert opinion I would hesitate to use them to take game.

Cast at night when it's to dark to shoot or when it cold, just think all the money you can save and all the extra shooting you can do? Yeah I fell down this rabbit hole a few years back and now have about 30 moulds , just think how much I'm saving !

I'm still lead scrounging. I have 2+ 30 cal ammo cans full of ingots. Soon I will be ready to start actually casting.

There ya go! It's a good start on a hobby that becomes an obsession,. I went lead collecting crazy for awhile, once when I was waiting for new tires on my truck I took a walk around the parking lot of the tire shop, I must've picked up at least 10 pounds of big truck weights. I also 'mine' the berms at the gun club and get a lot of tin/lead at flea markets yard sales in the form of solder. Scrouging is some of the fun.

i still have 2 5gal pails of wheel weights to sort .. the first bucket got me 60-lbs of lead .. ..

30 mins on the range burm after a North and South scrimmage .. 20 lbs .. its just lays there out for the picking ..

now i got what looks like a home brew old window sash weight from a co-worker all lead in a steel 1" x 2.5" x 16" .. full of lead .. another 25lbs at least ..

i have a few hundred lbs of lead at the ready .. to make shit with .. ..

might have to buy me the shot maker .. no cast bullets for me yet needed .. need bird shot ..
