DONE Lead casting equipment. Let's start with a ladle... 4 to 6 ounces

Anyone have a lead-rated ladle they're not using? Must be between 4 and 6 ounce capacity. Thinking about trying my hand at some basic casting. Might be interested in whole casting setup ,if the price is right. I'm in mid-Westchester . PM or email:

The Lyman book of lead cast bullets is a good reference. Even an older edition would be good.

For a ladle try commercial plumbing stores. Maybe a plumbing shop might have an old one. Lead was used to cast sewer pipe joints of years of old. Generally made of cast iron.

A stainless steel ladle from the dollar store will hold up to lead. Skip the ones with plastic handles.

When I render dirty lead, I use a big metal coffee can and a propane weed torch. Its not really that much heat.

Try it out with the cheap stuff. If you're going to get serious, then spend on the good stuff.

Be careful. Long pants, long sleeves. Gloves are a good idea too. Natural fabrics - nothing that will melt and stick to you when you spill some on yourself.
