LEAD Pb

Looking for pure lead, wheelwrights, linotype, etc. won't do. I'm getting down low in my lead cache and I'm looking for a source in the Livingston county, Rochester area. Any of you guys do any remodeling for Doctors and Dentists? That lead shielding from the X-ray room is the best, pure, dead soft, or roofers and plumbers, those old lead pipes and roof flashing is really good stuff too!!! I'll even pay scrapper prices for it.

If you find extra let me know. Right now I'm just using lead from berm mining. It takes a lot of time and propane to clean up. Until I get a decent source or enough ahead I won't fully jump into casting.

Have you checked the junkyards or local plumbers?

Do you use a lead hardness tester?

I usually get lead that I am sure of, if I am not sure I use my thumb nail. I've done it for years and I trust its accuracy, if it leaves a score, gimme more.

What are scrapper prices? Last I paid was .50 a pound for 200# of Ingots and cast rifle bullets.
( pretty sure I made out like a bandit on that deal)

Yeah but try selling it to them. They'll act like it as common as gravel, virtually worthless. Scrappers!

I haven't tried the local auto junk yard here .. but i've read from casting forums some can't resell lead from some law .. EPA i would guess ..

Price seems kind of high, $3.00 per lb.. Is there a local Rotometals? Never heard of not being able to resell lead, but then old telephone poles and railroad ties are no longer available to the public when they replace them with new. Used to get them free, no more, effing G!

I'd have to break down a pound of lead into gr's to see if three bucks a pound is worth it, its too early in the morning for that, later.

I found out about 4 days late I missed out on 2000# for dirt cheap. One of the sister companies I work for and a pile of it they were trying to get rid of and told me they finally got rid of it. I was like WTF I would have taken it. The worst part was they said they would have just given it to me to get rid of it.

Call your local dive shop and see if they have any old weights they want to part with.

By golly Kev, I believe you are right. My math skills are severely impaired at the moment hic, but doing a little cyphering, hic, that works out to just about how many, hic, .62 caliber round balls, 20, I get to a pound, hic, of lead. Bless you.

My buddy does recycling of brass and lead. He stopped sorting the brass cause it was to much work for all the cheapnass buyers (including the commercial reloading companies).

Now he just runs it to the big scrap mills. He moves hundreds of tons per month!

None of it will be pure lead, that the OP is looking for.

Next time you talk to him ask him pricing and what he has. I have wanted to break into casting for quite some time but until I either find a good source or get enough ahead from scrounging I wont be making the leap.

I have 4-500 pounds. And some linitype. All pure. Some in bars.

It will be cheaper if you load it yourself!

I will ask him. No matter what i can always get more than you would care to move.....just say the word.

His last pick up at a small range this past week was 21,000 pounds. And this was ONE tiny range. (But it consists of jackets and brass. So you will need to smelt/seperate. ).

Consider this your source.....jump in.
