They alloy the aluminum with other metals to get the properties that are desired. Pure aluminum are too soft. Usually copper and magnesium are added. For strength and durability. S&W adds scandium to some of the aluminum alloy guns, but it's very expensive.It cuts cost for sure. But isn't aluminum light enough for a pistol frame? Curious to know what other metals are mixed in with the aluminum.
