Is there any way to disable the semiauto function in an standard ak without altering the gas block/gas port? Perhaps a bolt carrier with it's piston head (just the head, not the entire stem if you know what I mean) removed? If something like that would work it would have to be legal, otherwise a straight pull 5.56 ar 15 bolt action would be banned if it had features, since you could drop in a 22lr bolt conversion.

You could just not drill the gas port in the first place. Then, if they ever legalize all those "bad features" you can simply actually drill the port.

True, but you can't do it quickly without tools if SHTF . Besides the best and most modern Kalashnikov variants use a 90 degree gas block. The bolt on k-var GB seems like a good idea though.
