Looks like it has a detachable magazine and pistol grip. Possibly also other features (adjustable stock, threaded barrel). That's very scary. What am I missing that makes it "compliant"?

When you pull the trigger and it goes bang, ejects the spent casing, picks up and loads an unfired cartridge ten times in a row (eleven if there was one in the chamber) without a hiccup, you should be good to go. Do they make one in .45ACP ?

Any assault weapon feature makes a long gun illegal in this state. Any of these with a detachable magazine is illegal. Flash suppressor, collapsible or adjustable stick, second forehand grip, pistol grip. The list goes on but read section 22 of this link for the full details on how to ruin your fun in NYS.

Just go to your local gun store here in NY and look at their featureless NY compliant AR platforms. That should answer your question. I know that no form of pistol grip under the action with a detachable magazine is allowed. There is something about pinned magazine where disassembly is require to load and unload and something about making it difficult to shoulder and fire safely for certain folks like women and men with small frames and short arms. I can't keep up with the nonsense.

As far as I've ascertained, there isn't even a packet for applying...It's the exact same for a Handgun, so why bother with just the Rifle endorsement unless you were crafty or concerned about being Red Flagged and loosing ALL your guns should the Firearms (Handgun) Licenses be pulled.
On it's face the requirements for a "Semi-automatic Rifle" permission slip are unobtainable for many, and because the Licenses requirement is essentially unworkable, someone threw in the idea of accepting a Handgun Licenses with the endorsement, which IS NOT in the Law, the Law called out for its own unique licenses, but those in charge of enforcement KNEW it was total bullshit, but played along anyway.
