I don't like it or the fact that it has come to this. People keep coming up with ideas to game the system. If people would just abide by the constitution we have there wouldn't be a need to mess with it.I dont like it.

They said last time for Merrill Garland they wouldn’t vote now they are trying to ram one in. I don’t mind so much because it benefits me, well in theory it doesn’t. Hasn’t yet. But that’s the hypocrisy. Why are they hypocrites? I say this to offer you perspective as I hear people saying what youre saying and its not the case. You do realize that since the late 1800s no senate has confirmed a scotus nominee of the opposite party during an election year. This is different since Trump and the senate are of the same party and Trump isnt an outgoing president.
There is no hypocrisy as far as I can tell.
Do you understand the difference between the two situations? One was for an outgoing president of the opposition party, and one is for a pres of the same party that has another potential term left. its apples and oranges. They said last time for Merrill Garland they wouldn’t vote now they are trying to ram one in. I don’t mind so much because it benefits me, well in theory it doesn’t. Hasn’t yet. But that’s the hypocrisy.
There is a massive difference between refusing to confirm an appointment that you have the authority to deny, and threatening to pack the court if you don’t get your way. They said last time for Merrill Garland they wouldn’t vote now they are trying to ram one in. Back then "We the People" spoke loud and clear and replaced the D senate with an R senate. In this case, "We the People" voted for an R senate to allow our R President to accomplish his agenda. Big difference. It's the will of the people. They said last time for Merrill Garland they wouldn’t vote now they are trying to ram one in. I don’t mind so much because it benefits me, well in theory it doesn’t. Hasn’t yet. But that’s the hypocrisy.
Well... We can all hypothesize about what might happen, rather than just focus on what's going, or not going to happen!
What's going to happen, whether it be before, or after the election, is a new SC Justice will be placed by current POTUS Trump! That's it... That's all that matters.
Whether or not there is political reaction and consequence for this act, prescribed by the Constitution, will be for the future to unfold.
Makes no sense running a hundred scenarios around or even worrying about it. It "IS" what it is...
I've said it before, like Physics, there is a Universal Law that is for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction! This is true in many, many examples and exists in more situations than we allow for (more than just physics). That said, it is a force, that should be avoided in Politics at all costs. As I've noted, so what has out politics evolved to? Undoing the work of those done before, rather than build upon what's been laid before in the path we walk on? Politicians are largely ineffectual any more and basically serve themselves. To enter this new political paradigm would regress our Republic and hasten the erosion of our compact with our govt and the eventual and forthcoming dissolution of our form of Gov't!
Longest lasting Democratic style Republic lasted just around 500 years, we are well through half way... But if you factor in the industrial age and capitalistic economic considerations, these can be viewed as accelerants, escalations in the speed to meeting the end. I never thought I'd see the day, whereas local Gov't authorities would submit to lawless mobs, never! Yeah, protests are protests, etc., but the submission and total acquiesce of the lawless babble and miscreants while ignoring and marginalizing the law abiding citizens they represent is completely insane, and never happened in the U.S. before! Labor riots, conscription riots, whiskey rebellion, many more examples, all put down by force! Simply amazing... But what does it show us?
Again, it's real simple, as we are witnessing the degradation of the moral fabric of our society along with the complete and wholesale collapse of political representation within our govt for the citizens who are compliant with it's laws and the compact, to those who make the most noise or are seemingly more scary!
So there is no need to debate such a small bickering bunch of bullshit like the selection and approval of a SCOTUS nominee, when the entire system is in a state of alarm!
Like the captain of the Titanic telling the band to keep playing because they were just taking on a little water! We may be past the point of no return!
Just thoughts... Thanks for reading
I’m not comparing Court packing to denying a vote. I’m comparing the republicans saying no we won’t vote on Merrick Garland to let’s ram through a SC pick. They said last time let the vote happen and the people decide I’m not disagreeing with the decision because I want a conservative pick on the SC. Just saying that they are hypocrites for doing a 180. That’s all. There is a massive difference between refusing to confirm an appointment that you have the authority to deny, and threatening to pack the court if you don’t get your way.
Imagine if Trump said "you know what, that court packing sounds like a good idea, I've got 5 candidates all vetted and waiting to go. We should be able to get all 5 in by Nov.
