I think the guy is SOL.

Massachusetts has very specific laws regarding the transportation and storage of firearms not directly under your control. While he was in the in the car he could argue that he was either in direct control and / or in compliance with law for transportation of a firearm. Once he walked away from car he was not in direct control, or in compliance with the more stringent law for storage of a firearm.

When he reported to police he left firearm in unlocked glovebox ( doesn’t matter if car was locked) he admitted to breaking state firearm law. That will get your carry permit revoked every time.

That the gun was stolen is not relevant.

If he had secured the gun in car with lock box and it had been stolen, he would likely been ok.

I may not like law in MA on this, but it is what it is

However leaving an unsecured weapon in a car with a person who you know to be a drug addict shows colossal lapse of judgement.

When my permit was issued (Oneida county) they told me do NOT leave my pistol in my vehicle, because if it's in my vehicle I do not have control of it. In other words the vehicle could get stolen, etc. Our issuing judge would not look too favorably on that.

I have considered a console vault but prefer concealed is concealed and go wherever.

I guess it depends on your definition of letting your gun be stolen. If I invite a felon into my house and say here’s my gun go ahead and steal it for your criminal use then I agree with you loosing your permit. I’m guessing that’s not what their definition of letting your gun be stolen is.

Simple fix. Just take one of the cables that comes with the cheap lock boxes and cut one end off. Tie the remaining end around an anchor point in your car. If your gun ever gets stolen, report that the fuckers cut your lock box off with the gun in it.
