Any specific reason for those caliber choices? Those calibers will limit lever action choice greatly because of bullet shape.looking for suggestions

Yes, that drives up the price though. It's for my dad and those calibers are his requirements.
Old school and I ain't arguing it
He was asking about the Henry Long Range today ....
Consistent, modern, centerfire rifle ammo getting light strikes is nearly unheard of....I guess you would call it a LPS... we used several different brands and consistently had dimples in the primer with no ignition. Next round worked but we couldn't get inside a foot group at 100 yrds

So I don't see the reason for the 243..
Correct, the Savage model 99 came in 308 cal. Lever action with a detachable magazine. Very nice rifles. Not all that easy to find. Gunbroker has a couple starting at around $650-$700I think savage has or had a rotary magazine lever gun - I think it was the model 99 and it came in both .243 and .308.

6mmBR and 6.5BR for the AR15 and score competition. yes.I always took you as a fan of the 6mm class. Or was that the 6.5?
Henry or Marlin in 44mag will kill anything in North America...has more energy than a 30-30 (within 200 yards) plus you'll have a matching Revolver backup...
Amen , I know l've taken my fair share over the last 35+ yearsIn a traditional, tubular, lever gun, the .30-30 has probably taken more deer than any.
He has a BLR in 243 that's magazine fed and its not shooting for shit. Light primer strikes and all over the paper when it does go bang...
