Charles Lavine introduced A-8870 to Assembly Judiciary on Monday. It is the companion to Jim Gaughran's S-6803 which was introduced a month ago.

These bills were not needed for a victim's family to sue a criminal in civil court since that capacity already exists for hypothetical economic losses of all sorts.

From past press coverage the legislators bragged that the wording does not limit lawsuits to cases involving only murder or manslaughter. These bills were previously touted to be companion pieces that enable the families of the misunderstood yutes to collect a payday from people (or the "murder" insurance carriers like Carry Guard or USCCA that FUAC already banned) who intentionally protected themselves from the misunderstood yutes. So after someone is cleared of all criminal charges after using a deadly weapon to defend themselves against a misunderstood yute, the yute's family can still get a payday after their press conference lines of "they don't have the right to be judge and executioner", "they could have just winged 'em", "they only wanted a little money and wouldn't have really hurt them", "it wasn't fair, they had an assault weapin", "they did not need to shoot more than once".

It is not an oversight that this bill widely opens the door for crushing lawsuits against people who defend their life with a firearm.

It is evil that these legislators want to weaponize the State so that people who act in self-defense with a weapon can be victimized again, only this time the real perpetrators' family.

This is a first step in creating a cause of action allowing people to sue gun makers and dealers. Spokesman have come right out and said that is the goal of the legislature.

If there really is a need to change this old "antique" law then why "Gaughran said the bill is narrowly drawn to apply only to instances involving use of a lethal weapon. " Shouldn't it apply to all products equally?

bottom line: if someone breaks into your home, just get off your lazy ass and help them carry your shit to their waiting vehicle. Then just hand them the keys to your home and you should go find somewhere under bridge to live.
