I live near Liberty. Been rough around the edges since I was a kid. Sadly it's become pretty much a shit hole now (pretty much just as bad as Monticello/Monti-ghetto). I go frequently because that's where the grocery store, hardware store, pharmacy and bank that I use most often is located.

My wife is from South Fallsburg. Her mom used to teach in Liberty. That area fell apart when it lost gambling.

I graduated from Liberty High School in 1974. It was a nice town, then. Now, to give you how bad it is, I tended bar for a living until last summer. The 3 bars left in town (in 1980 there were 20, and all were busy) close no later than 10pm, because they don't want to deal with the trash on the street. When the drug dealers tell you it isn't safe to be on the street after dark, you know it's bad. A few years ago, when my son was still in high school and he spent weekends with his mother he would walk from where job was, Achieve Rehab, and go to the Liberty Fitness Center to work out for football. The police chief contacted my father and told him not to let his son walk main street, as he could not guarantee his safety. This was at 9am on a Monday morning. It's a damn shame.
