You have no idea how many breaks are given by cops when it comes to DWI to non-cops to only have it come back to bite the cop .Would the cops who will look the other way for a fellow cop do the same for a CDL driver ?
His life would be just as ruined by the conviction.
As would many other professionals.
Who should only other cops get that pass ?
Also, looking the other way for a DWI by a fellow cop really shoots holes in the whole "we can't overlook AW possession bullshit".
For example, a cop I know pulled over a DWI. Rather than arrest him, he allowed him to call for a ride but to make sure the guy just didn’t drive home ( the cop couldn’t remain at the scene for guy’s ride to come), he locked the guy’a car keys in his car. The next morning the guy came in and made a complaint. Now, the cop is in trouble for giving the break. A fellow cop won’t do that.
I have seen it more than once where the person complained just for being made to take a taxi after getting stopped.
You get in more trouble for giving breaks than making those arrests and non LEOs burn the cops who do give them.
As far as the SAFE act violations or CCIA violations, I haven’t seen a whole bunch of pure CCIA or SAFE act violation arrests that weren’t illegal before the SAFE act was created. This is years into the SAFE act. If I was still active, how hard would be for me to find a pure SAFE act violation ? Or when I was active, do you think I could have put myself in a position to find them? Hint: how do the PA coos that patrol the public ranges know you have more than six rounds in your pistol?
