Will work. Any low weight engine oil will work better as it has additives that benefit certain firearms parts like carriers, bolt cams, slides.

my dad worked at a chem plant and got me some mineral oil for a project .,. the only thing i can say about it .. it creeps ..
you seal in a container and it will find a way to seep out ..

Mineral oil is the base for most oils commonly used today. Hoppe's #9 is a mineral oil base with the cool small put in it. Same with baby oil.
